Gray in Command, No-Hits Surf
Saturday, September 5th , 2015
Tucson Nets starter Dustin Gray said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Gray recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Tucson right-hander no-hit the Kailua Surf, 4-0, at Millbury Grounds, finishing with 3 walks and 12 strikeouts, facing only 29 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Gray admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
To date this year, Gray has compiled a 10-10 mark with a 2.10 ERA in 29 starts.
