Houston played host to Austin at Hogg Field.

Riding the 2-hit performance of the 24-year old center fielder Miguel Rodríguez, the Houston Lone Stars stopped the Austin Cowboys, 8-1. Houston pitcher Ron Dunlap got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tomás Meléndez got the loss.

The Cowboys had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Lone Stars going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the four-time Platinum Glove Award winner Israel González came to the plate. González hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 splitter from Austin hurler Rafael Concepción. It was González's 3rd double of the year.

"They just got us," said Austin manager John Kolman, "and that's all I can say."

The Lone Stars, now 8-3, have hit the ground running this season.
