Homer shortstop Shawn Curry pounded Phoenix Fireballs pitchers at Bombers Ballpark, but it was not enough to keep the Yetis from falling, 9-6. Curry went 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Cristo Richardson got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Phoenix, now 10-5, has played well in the early going.

Phoenix won the game in part because of Jason Davis. The shortstop ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Fireballs ahead, 5-2. For the game, Davis had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

Davis expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
