Phoenix got a valiant performance from pitcher Sean Helyer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Minneapolis Millers. Minneapolis won the game, 3-2. Helyer threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Millers raised their record to 2-1.

The decisive blow was delivered by Fred Aplin in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off two-time All-Star José Beltrán to win the game for Minneapolis. The home crowd went nuts.

"This game had its share of tense moments," Aplin said, postgame.
