The Hollywood Stars beat the Long Beach Ports, 9-5, at Gilmore Field. Hollywood second baseman Roy Hopkins, who finished 3rd in the CL in stolen bases with 67 last year, collected 2 singles and 1 double with 1 RBI. Cris Machado, who finished 4th in the CL in wins with 17 in 2013, was the winner. He's now 3-0. The loser was Nelson Ortaga. Long Beach falls to 12-13.

Mike Cardenas had a big bases-clearing triple for the Stars in the bottom of the first inning. With Hollywood leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from 32-year old left-handed pitcher Nelson Ortaga and swatted a triple to left. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Stars ahead, 4-0.

"I still think this team can play even better," Cardenas told the Hollywood Daily.
