Late Offense Lifts Oakland to 8-3 Victory
|
Reno second baseman Dave Shaffer had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Shaffer was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times, even as Oakland beat the Silver Sox, 8-3. Oakland reliever Larry Holt was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Reginald Morgan. Oakland is now 19-9.
Oakland needed the clutch hitting of Salvador Colón to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Acorns on top, 4-3. For the game, Colón had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
Colón attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
