Veeck Sizzles, Seattle Fizzles
|
Dirk Veeck of the Minneapolis Millers was on top of his game.
The 24-year-old tantalized the Seattle Rainiers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.
"He had the changeup working," Seattle manager Ulrath Unclean said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Minneapolis hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Veeck told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
In 7 starts this season, Veeck has rung up a 2-3 record and a 3.59 ERA.
