The New Orleans Pelicans dealt the Las Vegas Strip a 5-3 loss at Higgins Park. Joe Sandoval was the star on offense. He threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Cristián Cortéz closed the door for New Orleans, picking up his 14th save of the year. The victory gives the Pelicans a record of 25-11.

New Orleans took a 5-3 lead on Héctor Gutiérrez's 3rd double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Gutiérrez hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Las Vegas pitcher John Hodges visibly frustrated.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Gutiérrez. "But I like how we're playing right now."
