The Seattle Rainiers, despite a fine performance by Los Angeles pitcher Brian Gaines, grabbed a 3-1 win at Wrigley Field. Gaines allowed 1 run over 5.1 innings. Earning his 9th save of the year was Kevin Banks. The first-place Rainiers improved to 29-15.

Gilberto Lugo, who is tied for 6th in the CL with a .426 on-base percentage, had a direct impact on the outcome. Lugo contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Seattle up, 3-1.

Lugo called it "a solid win."
