With second baseman Héctor Cruz leading the charge, the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Las Vegas Strip, 7-5, at Banditos Ballpark. Cruz was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Pelicans now own a record of 27-26.

Scott Peck had a big 2-run triple for the Pelicans in the top of the sixth inning. With New Orleans leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from fireballing right-hander Lorenzo Morales and swatted a triple to center. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pelicans ahead, 3-0.

"They beat us fair and square," Las Vegas skipper Charlie Donovan said.
