Game 5 was big. So was Francisco Leal.

In leading Portland to a crucial 3-2 victory over the Hollywood Stars at Multnomah Stadium, the Portland starter rose to the occasion, tossing 5.1 good innings. Leal threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball as the Beavers defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Mike Williams helped out the Portland cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the pinch hitter drove in one run.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Williams, "one at-bat at a time."

Game 6 is scheduled for Saturday at Gilmore Field in Los Angeles.
