Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl
Saturday, August 30th , 2014
Yesterday at Clark Field Dennis Williams and Chris Thompson got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Austin Cowboys and Houston Lone Stars. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Williams will have to sit out 4 while Thompson would be given a 8-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
This season Williams has hit at a .228 clip with 54 RBIs, 15 home runs and 50 runs scored. He has played in 120 games.
For the season his stats show Thompson has no saves in 47 relief appearances with a 4-3 record and 4.20 ERA.
