Vargas Named Top Reliever for PCLA
Saturday, September 6th , 2014
At the age of 24, Alberto Vargas says he still has a lot to learn about life in BSBL Single A.
But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Salem Senators reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2006 Pacific A Reliever of the Year Award.
"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Brockton, Massachusetts native said.
For the season, Vargas had 8 saves in 74 relief appearances, which totaled 149.2. He fanned 279 betters, while walking 61 and put up a record of 9-4 to go with his 2.04 ERA.
He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Wiley Pérez of the Folsom Blues finished second in voting, while Bartolo Ornelas of the Monterey Sea Lions finished third.
