Long Beach and Mexico City duked it out and the Ports came out victorious.
Clyde Kelly, who is a two-time Platinum Glove Award winner, pitched well, but the Mexico City Aztecs still fell short, losing, 3-0, to the Long Beach Ports at Estadio Tenochtitlan. Kyle Arnold was the winner. He's now 2-0. The loser was two-time Platinum Glove Award winner Clyde Kelly.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Carlos Valenzuela? The Long Beach left fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Ports on top, 1-0. For the game, Valenzuela had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Jaime Martinez.
To call the performance of the 2016 Aztecs subpar is an understatement.
