James Thomas could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Mexico City Aztecs lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the San Francisco Seals at Ohlone Park. The winner was Cornell Jenkins, who threw 105 pitches over 6 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 5 hits. Freddy Mercado, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Seals had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when left fielder Manny Cantú hit a run-scoring single. The single came off James Thomas and made the score 2-0, Seals. Cantú went 1-3 with a walk.
"We did just enough to win," Cantú said.
Mexico City now has a record of 1-5.
